PS5: Crash and Shutdown

If Kingdom Come: Deliverance II crashes on your PlayStation 5 and the console shuts down on its own, try the following troubleshooting steps:

Identify the source of your issue:

If you own a Disc version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, check other discs in your console to determine whether the console is having problems when playing other games.

Before moving further, please check points 1-6 from this support guide from Sony.

Back up your console data:

Before attempting troubleshooting steps presented below, please note that some Safe Mode options will result in the loss of data. Be sure to back up data to a USB drive or Cloud Storage before selecting these options, by following these steps from Sony.

Please make sure to carefully read the "Important information" section.

In case you will need to restore your console data, please also remember that restoring your PlayStation 5 console disables Console Sharing and Offline Play. Enable the setting again to avoid losing access to your subscriptions and content - steps from Sony here.

Start PlayStation 5 in safe mode and clear cache

Safe Mode allows you to start your PlayStation console with only the most basic functions active. The Safe Mode options are designed to help you solve issues by rebuilding the console storage database, changing your resolution or "hard" resetting the console to its factory settings:

  1. Turn off PlayStation 5: Ensure the console is completely shut down (not in rest mode). Wait until all lights are off.
  2. Start in safe mode: Hold the power button on your PlayStation 5 until you hear a second beep (after about 5-7 seconds).
  3. Connect controller: Connect your DualSense controller using a USB cable.
  4. Clear cache and rebuild database: Press the PS button on the controller and select "Clear Cache and Rebuild Database."
  5. Clear system software cache: Choose "Clear System Software Cache" and "Rebuild Database"
  6. Restart game: Try to restart the game after these steps.

Further Measures

If the problem persists, check the following:

  • System update: Make sure your PlayStation 5 has the latest software update.
  • Ventilation: Place the console in a well-ventilated area.
  • Remove dust: Check that vents are free of dust and debris.
  • Change orientation: If your PlayStation 5 is vertical, try laying it horizontally.
  • SSD check: If you've replaced the SSD, ensure it includes a heatsink.
  • Activate performance mode: Go to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Game Presets and select Performance Mode.
  • Adjust display settings: Under Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, set VRR, 120Hz Output, and ALLM to Automatic. Alternatively, try disabling 120Hz Output.
  • Reinstall game: If the problem continues, consider reinstalling Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
