Steam: Controller not recognized
If your PlayStation or Xbox controller is not correctly recognized in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, this may manifest in the following ways:
- The Xbox or PS5 controller is not recognized in the game when connected either via a wired or wireless connection.
- Xbox button mappings are displayed even though you are using a PlayStation controller.
- Features like haptics or lighting remain grayed out.
This issue often occurs when Steam Input or controller configuration is enabled in Steam.
Solution
Disable Steam Input and Controller Configuration
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
-
Adjust Steam Settings:
- Open Steam and navigate to Settings > Controller > External Gamepad settings.
- Disable the option PlayStation Controller Support (for PlayStation controllers) and/or Enable Steam Input for Xbox controllers (for Xbox controllers).
Note: Select "Not Enabled" from the dropdown menu under PlayStation Controller Support.
-
Disable Steam Input for the Game:
- Open your Steam Library.
- Right-click on Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and select Properties.
- Go to the Controller tab and set Steam Input to Disable.
After making these changes, your controller should be correctly recognized, making all features, including haptics and lighting, available.
