The game leaves it open to your interpretation. Humanity is a mess and it's your job to rebuild society as you see fit. From the perspective of those in game characters who survived the "Event", they are so focused on survival that the who, what's, when and whys of the catastrophe are irrelevant.
But for the players, the climate crises is a part of the overall jigsaw of events and circumstances that lead to the fall of civilization and so we'll leave it to the player to decided it's relevance and the significance of causing factors, such as man-made greenhouse gas emissions . Ultimately, the facts don't care, the world is getting warmer.
Floodland doesn't aim to be propaganda, but we do want to get people thinking about the future, how they would survive and rebuild.
